No other firm can have a Genius Bar because Apple owns the brand. The Genius bar works because of several characteristics. There are several reasons for the success of the stores, including the products, the Apple brand and following, the architecture, the look and feel, the staffing, and the locations. The fact that nearly 2,000 stood in line for the opening of its Ginza store is illustrative. No longer are Apple products and brand tarnished by retailers who are unwilling or unable to provide an in-store Apple experience.Īnd the stores provide a source of energy to the brand and a new link to its rabid fans. The UST pickup jack uses a 2.5mm TS jack to plug into the preamp, which means another brand pickup such as a K&K or JJB soundboard transducer can also be used, as long as the expected impedance is 1k Ohms. I used the Wood Covered pickup without the exposed 12 poles, and the result is a very clean output with a much deeper tonality. Fortunately, you can retrofit one of Artec's other Soundhole humbuckers which are for temporary installation, by stripping the 1/4" socket and soldering a 3.5mm TS jack to it so that you can plug it into the preamp. The stock sound hole magnetic pickup is pretty good, with a balanced tonality, more low end than the UST at neutral, but a bit too noisy for my taste. The mic gooseneck is a bit short, but with a bit of trial and error, you can eliminate most of the boominess. Drilling the hole can be a bit troublesome, as the wire doesn't terminate at the end of the pickup, but somewhere a little on the inside, requiring the hole to be tapered to accommodate the extra bit sticking out.
